The third episode of The Secret Circle is entitled Loner. The group realizes the effects of binding the Circle and Faye immediately regrets her decision to participate. Diana claims she had no clue that the effects of binding the Circle would be so drastic. Long story short, their powers are useless unless there are at least two members of the Circle present while a spell is being performed.

 

Somewhere during the episode, a cute athlete named Luke asks Cassie to the school dance. She's hesitant at first but watching Adam spend time with Diana at the boathouse, she takes him up on his offer. Meanwhile, Melissa sees the dance as a chance to get closer to Nick. The two have been messing around behind Faye's back worried she might snap. It started off as meaningless sex but Melissa quickly grows feelings for Nick.

 

Faye is the only one who has no plans for the dance. Instead, all of her focus is on finding a way to control her individual powers. While she's practicing, however, she's attacked by a man from her mother's past, Zachary Star. Cassie was also attacked by the same man causing the Circle to grow worried and curious at the same time. Zachary makes an attempt to kill Cassie at the dance at which point the Circle takes drastic measures to ensure their safety. Before everything is all said and done, Dawn and Charles wind up marking Zachary so the he will never get anywhere near them or their kids without them knowing. I have a feeling he'll be back at some point on the show. And that wraps up my recap for the third episode of The Secret Circle. So far, the writers have managed to keep things interesting though at times it does feel like their off to a really slow start. I do believe, however, the show will be pushed into full gear come the middle of the season. After all, I almost lost interest in The Vampire Diaries after only four episodes and it's now one of my favorite shows on television. I'll stick around for awhile longer.
