The season two finale for The CW's hit series The Vampire Diaries aired Thursday and to say it was good is a complete understatement. After last week's episode, I honestly didn't think Kevin Williamson and his team of writers could top it. Had I not known before hand that is was the second to last episode of season two, I would have been convinced early on that 'it was' the season finale. For those of you who may have missed last week's episode, I'll give you a brief recap. Klaus prepares to sacrifice Elena as well as one vampire and one werewolf. Tyler Lockwood was suppose to be the chosen werewolf, however, Damon foils Klaus' plan. Tyler thanks Damon by taking a bite out of his arm. No worries. Klaus uses Tyler's mentor Jules instead. In addition, Caroline was suppose to meet her end at the hands (or should I say teeth?) of Klaus, but again, Damon comes to the rescue. Unfortunately, the innocent Jenna is put on the menu in her place and yes, she really does die this time.
Meanwhile, Elijah, Stefan, Bonnie and Alaric prepare to take Klaus out. At the very moment the curse of the moon is broken, Klaus will be at his weakest and that's when the group plans to strike. Elijah gives Stefan his word that he will kill Klaus even though the two are brothers. Of course, once Elijah has his hand on Klaus' heart (literally), Klaus manages to convince Elijah to let him live. Read on for more!
So the final episode picks up where that left off. Klaus has promised Elijah that he will take him to be reunited with their family's bodies. Meanwhile, Damon is dying and Stefan, Bonnie and Alaric are doing everything in their power to keep him alive long enough to find a cure for his werewolf bite. After Bonnie calls upon the dead witches once again, she learns that there is a cure, however, it's not in a spell. In fact, Klaus is the only key to Damon's survival. The problem is, he's not likely going to want to help them after they all tried to kill him. Go figure.
While all that's going on, Miss Lockwood has told Liz (the sheriff) to push the vampire hunt to new heights. Her first target, of course, is Damon. After a little mix up at the Mystic Grill, Jeremy winds up getting shot and wouldn't you know, he actually dies. Not for long though. Bonnie has to call upon the witches once more for help, but this time they're not very happy. They warn Bonnie that if she saves Jeremy, there will be consequences to pay. At the time, Bonnie could care less. Toward the end of the episode, however, Jeremy see Vicki and Anna, two people that died earlier in the show. My assumption is that they're going to haunt him in season three.
While all this is taking place, Stefan was making a deal with Klaus. Turns out, Klaus' blood is the cure for a werewolf bit but the only way he'll hand over his blood to Stefan to save Damon is if Stefan agrees to leave Mystic Falls with him to carry out deadly assignments. Stefan refuses at first, but realizing his brother doesn't have much time left, he agrees to Klaus' demands. We even get the joy of watching Stefan sink his teeth into an innocent victim.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. Elena and Damon get a little frisky. If you can believe it, they even kiss. Having said that, the writers have certainly turned The Vampire Diaries upside down. Jeremy is seeing ghost. Elena and Damon are getting steamy. Stefan is now the bad guy. I don't know about you guys, but September seems like ages away.
