A good sitcom is hard to come by these days. Perhaps that's the reason Two and a Half Men has experienced such success. While the jokes can get a bit predictable at times..well, most of the time, it's not a bad way to kill half an hour. This season has received quite a bit of mixed reviews. With Charlie Sheen out of the picture, viewers are still trying to decide if they like Ashton Kutcher. I've never watched Two and a Half Men on a weekly basis. I probably saw an episode a season at the most up until this season. Now, however, I'm hooked. I'm beginning to think Ashton Kutcher was destined to star on this show. Right now, his character, Walden, is like an 8-year-old child trapped in a 35-year-old's body. I'm not sure what the writers have in store for Walden as far as character development but I'm crossing my fingers they don't move too fast for his childish tendencies are still more than welcome on my television set.Two and a Half Men is now in its ninth season and last night, CBS aired the third episode entitled Big Girls Don't Throw Food. Perhaps I was feeling like a kid myself or someone stuck laughing gas in my ventilation system but either way, I laughed throughout the entire episode. It wasn't just small chuckles under my breath either. I was laughing uncontrollably and to the point that I actually started choking on one occasion. It was during a scene involving Walden (Kutcher) and his ex-wife Bridget (Judy Greer). They were at a low-end, all-you-can-eat soup and salad restraunt. At one point, Walden is trying to convince Bridget that he can change his immature ways while at the same time he's having a food fight with a six-year-old girl sitting behind him. it was hysterical.
I'm not sure how long the writers can keep the side-story of Walden trying to win back his ex going but for the time being, it works and you know what they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Eventually, the time's going to come when Alan (Jon Cryer) and his son Jake (Angus T. Jones) move into Walden's home permanently but the writers seem to be taking their time building up to that point. That's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it adds some realism which is something Two and a Half Men has been lacking a lot of over the last couple of seasons.
I've enjoyed the sitcom's ninth season so far and so much I've created a timer on my DVR which isn't something I do often. It's a privilege a show has to earn and Two and a Half Men has earned it over the span of three episodes. Here's to hoping the writers keep up the good work because it's nice to have some heavy laughter in my life, even if it is only once a week.
