Whitney Houston, pop and R&B icon, passed away at the age of 48. Time, location and cause of death are currently unknown.From the mid-80s to the late 90s, Houston was one of the best-selling musical artists in the world and influenced some of today's biggest talents including Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. In addition to her music career, Whitney also landed roles in several motion pictures including the 1992 block-buster The Bodyguard in which she co-starred with Kevin Costner. She also contributed to the soundtrack for the film which was awared the 1994 Grammy for Album of the Year. Her single I Will Always Love You became the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. In addition, she also became the first act of any kind to sell more than a million copies of an album in a single week.
Houston caused a stir of controversy when she married troubled R&B singer Bobby Brown. The relationship saw both Houston and Brown spiral out of control with the former admitting to a serious drug addiction that resulted in several arrests. The two eventually divorced in 2007 after 16 years of marriage.
Whitney Houston is survived by her daughter Bobbie Kristina Brown. Rest in peace.
