Head 2 Head: Michael Myers Vs Death

Head 2 HeadThis time time on Head 2 Head, it's psychopathic serial killer Michael Meyers (Halloween 2) verus the unmerciful Grim Reaper (The Final Destination).

Halloween is one of the longest running franchises in cinema history. John Carpenter's original film, released back in 1978, is undoubtedly a classic and it's no surprise that over the years and upon each installment the series has racked up quite a fanbase. If we were to select a winner from this alone, Halloween 2 would be victorious...hands down. Unfortunately, Halloween is one of the many brilliant horror films that wound up on the remake chopping block. While Rob Zombie made it very clear to viewers that 2007's Halloween was not a remake but rather a re-imagining of Carpenter's classic, there's no denying the film was a bit too...well...unsatisfying. Of course, I can only speak for myself when saying this, but I don't think many horror fans or movie goers in general will be racing to see Halloween 2 come August 28th, 2009.

"Final Destination" is a film that took viewers by surprise.  It was released around the time that teen-slasher flicks were beginning to wear out their welcome after a long string of copy cats hit the bigscreen upon the enormous success of "Scream".  I remember seeing the trailer for the film back in 2000 and I must admit that I too was expecting another dull film about teenagers being killed off by a masked psychopath.  Fortunately, it turned out to be an innovative thrill-ride.  Like myself, many viewers were amazed by the realistic and cleverly crafted death sequences showcasing the characters being involved in brutal and bizarre accidents.  It was such a box-office success that it spawned three sequels, with the fourth installment hitting theaters August 28th, 2009.

While every entry in the "Final Destination" series were money makers, the third flick didn't live up to its predecessors.  This could mean trouble for the fourth entry.  However, considering "The Final Destination" (aka "Final Destination 4") will be arriving in theaters in 3D and was shot with an advanced camera that has never been used before in motion picture history, there's no doubt that movie goers are anticipating the wild experience that awaits them come this August.

Though the fight will definitely be a close one, "The Final Destination" takes the win.  Everybody loves a 3D experience and the filmmakers have promised viewers that we've never seen anything like it.  While "Halloween 2" may be a success, it's just another sequel in the eyes of most movie goers and a sequel to a remake at that.  We all witnessed how poor "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" performed at the box-office and I fear the same fate lies in store for Rob Zombie's sequel.

So there you have it! Stay tuned for more 'Head 2 Head' action!
