'Valentine's Day' hugs first place at box office. Before anything, I want to apologize on behalf of the staff here at Reel Empire for not wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day. So, Happy V-day everybody and thanks for all your continued love and support for us.
Moving on, business was booming at the box office this Valentine's Day weekend as three new releases grasped the top three spots on the charts. Of course, the star-studded, romantic-comedy "Valentine's Day" hugged first place with a lip-locking $52.4 million. Far behind it though still a damn good opening was "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" which pulled in $31.1 million. Meanwhile, there was still some love in the air for horror as "The Wolfman" sunk its teeth into an estimated $30.6 million.
"Avatar" finally looks to be slowing down after all this time, though it still earned an incredible $22 million in its ninth week to grab the fourth spot on the charts. Finally, the fifth spot went to "Dear John" which raked in an impressive $15.3 million.
