'Avatar' beats 'Titanic's' final record. James Cameron's 'Avatar' has been riding at the top of the box-office chart for several weeks, having beat 'Titanic' as the highest grossing motion picture in the world. However, it was only recently that the Oscar-nominated film managed to pass 'Titanic' on the domestic chart reaching $601.1 million, which beats out 'Titanic's' $600.8 million.
"Lightning is not supposed to strike twice. And it has. And it's a pinch-me moment when you sit there and you hear that we're going to break another record. It's beyond anything that we could have imagined," he said.
Cameron is right. It's truley amazing to have made one motion picture that managed to become the highest grossing motion picture of all time at both the domestic and internation box office. But to have two? That just seems impossible, but evidently it isn't.
All we can say is take this all in while you can movie goers. It may be another ten years before we see a motion picture beat out 'Avatar'.
