Surely most Netflix users have heard by now about the company's price changes that are effective immediately for new subscribers and in September for current subscribers. If not, take a look at this.Netflix recently announced some new price changes that they claim are better for their customers. Simply put, they raised their prices and tried to make their customers feel good about it but they're obviously not as dumb as they think. In fact, I was reading some of the comments left under various news posts and needless to say, a lot of people are enraged.
Before, customers could select a subscription package that would allow them to watch an unlimited number of DVDs as well as stream an unlimited number of movies to their televisions and computers for a mere $9 a month. Of course, they're only allowed one DVD out at a time but still, if they were to watch a DVD the same day they received it in the mail and sent it back the next day, that's about 5 or 6 DVDs a month. If they couldn't find a particular title in the company's streamable movies, they would have the DVD sent out. Once again, that was for a mere $9 a month. Read on for the full story!
Netflix recently announced that particular package would no longer be available for new subscribers and customers who are currently subscribed to that package will have to select a different package come September.
Now, customers can subscribe to an unlimited stream package for $7.99 or an unlimited DVD package, one out at a time, for $7.99. With the former, you won't be able to rent DVDs and for the latter, you won't be able to stream movies. Of course, they still offer the package that includes both but it's now $16 a month. I can see why customers would be upset, particularly existing customers. That's almost double the price for the same package. After all, think about just how many people are currently subscribed to Netflix. Does the company really need that extra money? To me, it looks like a simple case of a company taking advantage of their customers.
I must have read a hundred comments yesterday from existing customers who were so enraged that they planned to cancel their Netflix account all together and find something more reasonable. Can you blame them?
I'm actually a current Netflix subscriber myself and primarily use my account to stream movies, however, if I can't find a movie in the instant play library I simply have it sent to me on DVD. I wouldn't mind the package chance so much if Netflix expanded their instant play library. At the moment, however, about 80% of the movies in the instant play library are utter garbage.
Needless to say, the company is going to see a significant amount of cancellations if they don't make some changes...and fast. I've decide to change to the stream only package with the hope that Netflix will expand their instant play library, but if nothing has changed in a month or so, I'm going to call it quits as well.
