It’s hard not to fall in love with Sean Penn’s fourth feature, “Into the Wild”, which is a compelling masterpiece and a rare case of many factors falling perfectly into place. If Emile Hirsch was attempting to throw himself under the spotlight, his complex breakthrough performance here will certainly do the trick. There’s a meaningful relationship developed between Hirsch’s character and William Hurt’s that will undoubtedly warm the hearts of anyone who sets eyes on Penn’s captivating product. Overlapping each gorgeous shot of the Alaskan environment is a moody score composed magnificently by Eddie Vedder. An Oscar-worthy production, “Into the Wild” consists of glamorous story-telling, grounded performances and incisive direction. It’s one of the year’s best pictures!
