Two just-graduated officers from Massachusetts State Police Academy follow opposite sides of the law: William Costigan is assigned to work undercover with the Irish mobster Frank Costello to get evidences to arrest him. His true identity is only known by his superiors Dignam and Oliver Queenan. The protégée of Costello, Colin Sullivan, is promoted in the Massachusetts State Police and is the informer of Costello. Each police officer gives his best effort trying to disclose the identity of the other "rat".
Editor reviews
Scorsese’s “The Departed” is a brilliantly executed crime-thriller and the best picture from the acclaimed director since “Goodfellas”. Venturing deep into the gritty underworld of Boston where crime seems to be more of an extracurricular activity than a form of breaking the law, the atmosphere is a significant element in terms of the story’s effectiveness. DeCaprio and Damon are solid in their roles and do exceptionally well in holding their own next to veteran actor Jack Nicholson who seems to get some kind of guilty pleasure out of playing the antagonist. Monahan’s screenplay is intense and cleverly manifested, exploding with twists and turns that’ll keep you guessing until the jaw-dropping conclusion that puts a juicy cherry on this magnificent motion picture. “The Departed” is a must see!
