Based on the true story of the explosive events that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 when African-American football coach Herman Boone was hired to guide an integrated but racially polarized high school team--the T.C. Williams Titans. Angry, stubborn and a rigid taskmaster, Boone faces a cool reception from the team's players as well as an awkward relationship with assistant coach Bill Yoast, a local white man with seniority and a tradition of winning who was bypassed for the job. It's made clear that Bill has feelings of animosity for having to be an assistant under a black man. As the two men learn to overcome their ignorance and bigotry and realize that they have much in common--integrity, honor, and a strong work ethic--they work together to transfom a group of angry, unfocused players into a dynamic winning team of responsible young men. In the process, they also unite a divided community and ensure that Virginia will always "Remember the Titans."

When it comes to great sports movies, Remember The Titans is an instant classic and maybe...just maybe, the best football movie ever made. Now just a month or so ago i reviewed Varsity Blues and called it my favorite football movie of all time. That being said, Titans is my close second. Titans has a great cast, an inspirational story, and tells it as good as any movie i've ever seen.
Denzel Washington and Will Patton lead the talented cast that consisted of up-and-comers such as Donald Faison, Ryan Gosling, Kip Pardue, Ethan Suplee, Wood Harris, Ryan Hurst, and Hayden Panettierre. Washington plays tough as nails coach Boone, while Patton complements him perfectly as simmered down coach Yoast. Hurst is outstanding as team leader Gerry Bertier and Panettierre is memorable as coach Yoast's tomboy daughter.
The story of this movie is not football, but that we are all the same. Whether you are black or white, no matter what color your skin is, you are equals. The friendship that Bertier and fellow defender Julius Campbell develop during the movie brings a smile to your face, as does some of the antics of fellow players. I would recommend Remember the Titans to anybody looking for a great movie, even if they are not a football fan, they will fall in love with Remember the Titans.
