In his 35th year as head coach, Bud Kilmer is trying to lead his West Canaan Coyotes to their 23rd division title. Uncompromising and omnipotent, Kilmer is deified in the small Texas town as long as the team is winning. But when star qurterback Lance Harbor suffers a season-ending injury, the Coyotes are forced to regroup under the questionable leadership of second-string quarterback Jonathan Moxon. His irreverent attitude and approach to football come into direct conflict with the coach's inflexible game plan.

Its hard to believe its been 10 years since Varsity Blues came out. I remember seeing this movie when i first came across it in the video store. My dad and i watched it, and i fell in love with football even more than i already was. This movie has everything High School Football movie should have: a country boy lineman who likes to get rowdy(Billy Bob), a horny wide receiver(Tweeder), a stripper teacher(Ms. Davis), and a hot blonde cheerleader in a whipped cream bikini(Darcy).

As in every football movie, there's a hotshot quarterback and a domineering coach. And in this movie they're both played great by James Van Der Beek and Jon Voight, respectively. Ali Larter gets a huge memorable moment in movie history with that whipped cream bikini, but the star of the movie is undoubtedly everybody's favorite horndog wideout, Tweeder, played to perfection by Scott Caan.

Now i remember looking back a few years ago and i tried comparing Blues to Remember The Titans to see what is the greatest high school football movie ever made? then i looked at it, both movies are from different times, the 70's and 90's, and both had different messages. Titans looked to inspire, while Blues just showcased what high school football is like off the field. Both are 2 of the greatest movies ever made, but in the end, i got to go with Varsity Blues. I love this movie, and if you love football you'll love it too. If you haven't seen it, go out and rent...no BUY a copy of this movie ASAP!
