I've learned a lot from Jack Black. I learned a few years ago to never expect consistently funny performances from him. I learned to never buy a brand new dvd without seeing it first, hence Nacho Libre. And i also learned that Jack Black is basically not funny...at all. It seems just about every movie he's made since Shallow Hal has been a waste of mine and everybody else's time who sees these movies, and Year One is no exception.
Year One stars Black and timid nerd Michael Cera as cavemen. Yeah, cavemen. First off, the plot of this movie is stupid already, yet throw in Black and it becomes a stupid parade of moronic jokes and Black trying way too hard to get a laugh. I kind of had a feeling that this movie was gonna suck out loud when i saw the trailer, but i had no idea it would make me want to poke my eyes out, that is until Olivia Wilde came onscreen. Wilde and a few other talented actors provide minor highlights in one of the worst movies i have ever seen. Vinnie Jones and Hank Azaria manage to stand out, but other than them and Wilde, this movie is completely lacking of talent.
I've seen some awful movies in my life, and while i didn't pay to see this one, i feel like i have paid with almost 2 hours of my life that i'll never get back. I would not recommend Year One to anybody unless they purposely want to waste 2 hours of their life. Year One is a horrible movie and should be given the movie death penalty.
