Film centers on Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a 1980s-era star pro wrestler who has become a burnt-out shell of his former self. After he has a heart attack during a small-time match, a doctor tells him he could die if he fights again. In an effort to build a new life, Robinson takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to build a relationship with her son. But the prospect of a rematch with his old nemesis the Ayatollah proves too tempting to resist, even if it means risking his life.

Mickey Rourke's comeback has been exclamated by an Oscar-nominated performance in the wrestling drama, "The Wrestler". Directed by Darren Aronofsky and Written by Robert Siegel, Wrestler shines in just about every category a movie can. In the starring role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson, Rourke shows that he is the genuine article( most people don't know that Rourke briefly dabbled in professional boxing). Rourke's athletic background and his abilities as a dramatic actor made him a prime candidate to play "The Ram", but it was Rourke's personal life that caught the attention of Aronofsky. Rourke had quite a bit in common with "Ram" as both career's were on a downward spiral, which made Rourke the perfect fit to put on the tights. Rourke's character shows that even though it takes a toll on his body, he still loves putting on a show for the fans. With ups and downs throughout the movie, the drama is definitely there. Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood put on strong enough performances, but the movie still centers on Rourke. The wrestling aspect did take a lot more to put in the movie, as Rourke was trained by Afa of The Wild Samoans, but it made the movie that much more real. Even though this movie is considered a drama, it also is very genuine in how it shows the behind the scenes of the wrestling world. Cameos in the movie include world famous wrestlers such as Ernest Miller, Necro Butcher, and R-Truth(Ron Killings). As a wrestling fan, i loved the movie, but you don't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it. This movie is an instant classic.
